Nobles Generations, Mann Utd, JEM and Crosby Old Boys all triumph in the final games of the Manx Telecom Indoor Bowling Leagues

Manx Telecom Premier Division

Nobles Generations, made up of father and Son pairs, Nigel & David Thomas and Tony & Ben Dugdale came through the challenge of picking up 6 points from the 12 available in their final two games to take the Manx Telecom Premier Division League Title. In a closely fought game on Tuesday evening the Generations came through a difficult tie against 4th placed JEM to pick up 4 points, leaving them needing 2 points in their final game against 3rd placed Mann Utd to take the title and the line-up of Nigel, David & Ben came through an emphatic style to win the Triples 15 v 0 against Roger Payne, John Callan & Iain McDougall. They rounded off the night with a win in the Doubles and a draw in the Singles between Tony and Iain. Runners up in the Division were Crosby Colts, with third place going to Mann Utd.

Manx Telecom Tuesday Morning League

Despite being a point behind Onchan Royals coming into Tuesday’s final game Mann Utd overturned the odds to take the Tuesday Morning League. Iain McDougal, Roger Payne and John Callan got them off to a strong start, taking the Triples 9 v 3 against the Hillbillies A Lynch, Pete Faragher and Eric Stanley. Rita Callan & Maureen Payne continued the momentum taking the Doubles 9 v 3 against Eric Stanley and A Lynch, with McDougall finishing the whitewash with a 17 v 5 Singles win against Pete Faragher. Alasdair Irving & Ken Edwards continued to take the game to JEM picking up ½ a point with a draw. Manx Telecom Premier Division

League leaders Crosby Colts faced the Birdies in their last game of the season and they made no mistakes notching up a maximum 6 points win in emphatic style, taking their points tally to the season to 67 and setting a target for Mann Utd and Nobles Generations to chase. Mann Utd faced a difficult penultimate match against 4th placed JEM and that’s how it turned out with JEM winning the Triples and Singles to inflict serious damage on Utd’s Championship aspirations and even if they take maximum points from their final game with Nobles Generations next week, they will only be able to amass 66 points, one point behind the Colts. Nobles Generations faced a slightly easier match against Onchan Royals and they quickly dispatched the Royals in the Triples and Doubles, before Royals Mike Hargraves gave David Thomas a scare in the Singles before eventually losing 9 v 7, to leave the Generations on 62 points with 2 games left and needing 6 points from the 12 on offer to take the title, however the 2 games couldn’t be harder as they are up against JEM and Mann Utd. In the final game of the evening the Kestrels in need of points to avoid relation to the first division were up against the Spinners and with the exception of the Triples which the Kestrels won, the game went to form with the Spinners winning the Doubles and Singles. To avoid relation the Kestrels need to take maximum points from their last game against their closest rivals the Onchan Royals.

Manx Telecom Tuesday Morning League

With only Mann Utd and Onchan Royals left in the chase for the title and just a point in it at the top, it’s a case of who would make the first mistake and both teams got off to a bright start, winning Triples & Doubles, however Mike Hargraves for the Royals lost his Singles against the Maxums Phill Smith 11 v 7, however his disappointment was short-lived as Iain McDougall for Utd also lost his Singles against the Celtic Fringe’s Tom Keenan 11 v 6. In the other games Ellan Vannin lost 1 v 5 to the Castletown Crofters, the Cushags beat the Flat Hatters 4 v 2 and finally the Hillbillies beat the Liverbirds 4 v 2. Both Utd and the Royals face difficult top 4 opponents in their final matches next week, so the league could go all the way to the final Singles matches.

Manx Telecom Premier Pairs League

Nobles Generations faced the Crosby Colts in a re-arranged game and it was the Generations who got off to the better start taking the first set 7 v 3, the second set looked to be going a similar way until the Colts found a second gear and overturned a 5 v 1 deficit to run out 8 v 5 winners, continuing their form to take the match on the tie break. In this week’s games leaders JEM stumbled against the dangerous Maxums, losing the first set 10 v 5, and only drawing the second set 7 v 7. Crosby looking to make up ground on JEM faced the Spinners and got off to a good start taking the opening set 8 v 7, the Spinners fought back taking the second set 7 v 4, before Crosby ran out winners in the tie break. Third placed Nobles Generations overcame Onchan Royals to take maximum points. The Young Guns after a poor start in which they lost the opening set 11 v 5 against the Flat Hatters finally got going and took the second set 7 v 3, hanging on to take the match on a tie break. In the final game of the evening Mann Utd surprisingly lost their game against the Kestrels 2 v 1 on the tie break. In the final games Crosby Colts have a mountain to climb, especially as leaders JEM only need a point from their match against second from bottom Kestrels, with the Colts up against the Maxums

Manx Telecom First Division League

With just a couple of games left the title is between the Bravehearts and the Crosby Old Boys. The Old Boys were up against Castletown Crofters and on the face of it this looked a tricky game, however the Old Boys won the Triples and Doubles comfortably, setting up young Aaron Clark to finish the game off, however George Peach had other ideas and took young Aaron all the way only succumbing 12 v 11. The Bravehearts were up against the Celtic Fringe and although the Triples and Doubles were tight the Bravehearts ran out winners and took maximum points. The Port Jacks faced the Grumpy Old Men and after a good start in the Triples for the Jack’s the game went against them, with the GOM taking the Doubles and Singles. In the final game the Terriers had it all their own way taking maximum points from the Cushags. Next week’s final game sees the Old Boys up against the Grumpy Old Men and if they take 5 points out of 6 they will take the title, as the Bravehearts have a bye having already played their final game.

Manx Telecom Premier Pairs League

Onchan Royals took maximum points from the Flat Hatters, who were only able to field a team in the Doubles. Leaders JEM faced a tough game against Mann Utd, however they made light of it taking all the points with Edward and John Alderson in fine form. The Spinners were up against the Maxums and the match went to a tine break with the Spinners hanging on for a 2 v 1 win. In the final game the Kestrels faced the Young Guns and although both sets were tight Tony & Ben Dugdale for the Guns won both.
